2016才開始不久，但已經有許多名人死了。其實他們也都有點年紀了，所以大多所處全盛時期已經不是六、七年級的青少年時期了。像David Bowie雖然名氣很大，但比較少聽他的歌。而石內卜是不唱歌的，但是他跟Emma Thompson演的愛是你，愛是我(Love Actually)真的很好看，有看一定要看一下，回味Alan Rickman的風采。Eagles的Glenn Frey過逝，對我們這一代的大學生不能說是沒感觸的。我們這一代大學時的主業是打星海、世紀帝國，但吉他這種老才藝，還是有一定的擁護者。就算不彈，聽聽也是很樂意的。

一個樂團，在全世界紅個一年是實力加運氣；紅個三、五年是實力超強；像是老鷹這種的，只能說是傳奇了。說來也奇怪，每個人在自己青少年時期，大多會喜歡當時最夯、最流行的音樂。但這種喜好，又會跟著一輩子的。也是為何在十數年後，在今年最強寒流要來時的午夜，俺不在被窩裡，而是一邊啜著威士忌，一邊懷念當時大學宿舍人人在聽的Hotel California。一首歌出名到這種程度的，通常我就不寫介紹了，寫的更好的文章多的是。但這星期聽到Glenn Frey過逝，一直思索要以自己的形式紀念一下。凡走過的，必留下痕跡。像是穿了沒洗的襪子，給大家聞個香。

Hotel California的專輯發行是1976年，我們都還沒出生。老鷹的曲風以搖滾與鄉村二種為大宗，原版的是搖滾風的。我們在大學聽的不是這個版本，是不插電(unplugged)的版本。每個搖滾巨星都喜歡弄個不插電演唱會或專輯來展示另一種風情。吉他不插電，也是能搖滾的！但並不是每個都很成功啦，像是邦喬飛…。這個演唱會叫地獄結凍(Hell Freezes Over)，因為他們之前解散過，還有人嗆聲，要復合，除非地獄結霜啦！只能說他們確實有才，復出不是只為了撈錢，整個感覺完全是不一樣的。這個版本的前奏實在太動人，有很多人是因為這首學吉他的人吧！這個歌的偉大之處在於，歌詞好、曲子好、吉他solo也很好。這個solo有雜誌評為100最偉大solo的第一名，這排名一看就是引戰用的。技巧派的粉絲會說，這solo不難啊，就一些推弦啊，沒速彈什麼的。但一個東西的偉大不在於它的複雜程度，就跟E=MC²一樣。

後來接觸到原版本才知道原本精采的是結尾solo，二個人配合的天衣無縫。看過1977年版本的人都會驚訝，1994年的他們，整理了頭髮、鬍子之後，看起來反而年輕點了。Don Henley那個alfro實在很經典。這個MV，一開頭大家高舉著打火機，讓人回想起那個充滿性與毒品的美好年代了，不能躬逢其盛，人生撼事。常有人爭論那個版本是比較好的，都聽就好了啊…。這群阿伯把一首歌弄出了二個經典版本，還沒看過什麼歌是這個情形的。

但我覺得最好的搖滾版本是在Lisbon的演唱會，開頭有小喇叭演奏的那個。

這首歌的歌詞已經很多人解析過了，且寫的很好，我就不多著墨了。比較有名的說法是說這歌跟毒品、迷幻藥有關，我是覺得不嗑藥寫不出這麼好的歌啦。大家問他們創作起源，他們也是賣關子。創作者都喜歡這樣，事實上可能也是不得已的，如果當初只是為一個很無聊的原因寫了這歌，大家不是很失望？個人覺得比較有趣的是原來七十年代，美國人就在旅館的天花板放鏡子助興了。

老鷹這個團的特別之處是他們的分工沒那麼精細，除了吉他手Don Felder，每個團員都能在演唱會中唱上幾首。Glenn Frey常唱的是比較鄉村風的，很喜歡他唱的The Girl from Yesterday。找到個山水版的MV，聽聽音樂就好。
